Don't know. Doesn't correlate with ENSO or PDO, but a sample size of 4 (peaks) is not much to go on. There was a paper published earlier this year (Ryzhkova et al.) that purports to show wildfire in the southern NWT has some correlation with the PDO at multi-century time scales.

I wouldn't read too much into that.. Fig 6 (AK only) shows a very different frequency.
