Did you know that we have a free (yes, really) online course (a “MOOC”) called Climate Change in Arctic Environments? This is available through AlaskaX and is a broad introduction to the changing Arctic, but it’s much more than just climate of the Arctic. From temperature, precipitation and storms to ecosystems, food security, a brief history of human activity in the Arctic and current governance, this is an easy, self paced overview of what’s happening in the Arctic. We produced this in 2021, during the height of the pandemic, but I was just looking through it and it’s still timely.
The detailed syllabus shows just how broad the scope of the course is, covering modern climate science and the impacts of climate change across atmospheric, marine, terrestrial and human systems.
One of things I really like about this course and the format is that you hear directly from subject matter experts. That keeps it interesting and makes much more sense than a traditional course structure.
So if you’d like increase your understanding of the Arctic amidst all the changes, check out our MOOC.
Full disclosure: Dr. John Walsh and I are the “hosts” of this MOOC and helped shape the content.
